Do you ever heard about Stratopolonez? It was made in late 70' in OBR SO (department of prototipes and sport in FSO). They fit rear part of stratos frame, engine and suspensions into Polonez (popular car based on Polski Fiat 125p). Parts were from crashed Stratos GRIV - one of 3 Stratos which Jaroszewicz drove in rallies.

Well, they've all got one Stratos part anyhow.

Why NOT go the whole hog?

Well, a shell for a Polonez must be cheap.........

January 23rd, 2004, 01:28 PM
Well, yes, very cheap, but it's hard to find a good specimen, without rust and holes in floor-board

Actually, I do the audit of an ex FSO dealer in Liverpool - they do have an FSO pickup that is refusing to die despite being driven into the ground for the last 6 years! Did you see the Top Gear item on the Toyota truck they crushed, put in the sea, dropped from a tower block and finally set fire to? And it still worked!! Well, I swear this FSO has had to put up with pretty much the same! It won't die but when it does they know that the front stub axles can live on in a Stratos replica and have said they are mine when the day comes! Poor truck. Immortality awaits you......

And didn't Chris Smith have a Lada pick up fitted with an uprated Lancia Volumex engine for a while - wonder what happened to that? Would have made an ideal donor for the Fiat Spider.........

Chris J

What? Cloggie

Well, the idea involves a Ferrari, a set of Campagnolos and a Polski Fiat.

I'm beginning to think better of it, though.

I am now the proud(should i say that quietly), owner of the fso pick up with the volumex twin cam in, met the last owner who i believe was chriss at retro cars this year.
If that pick up comes up and is a full body mid 80's polonez could you let me know as although mine is solid i would love some spare pannels.
Need to know a lot about the engine so anyone knowlagable please HELP!

Hope you don't mind a highbred owner on here?

I'll be at that client in the next 2 weeks but don't recall seeing it there when I did the stocktake. It was VERY rough last year and suspect it's gone. Let you know nearer the time!

Thanks for the welcome!

Not sure where to go with truck next, lots of bis on engine with unconected wires seems to work well but concerned they should be feeding something.
Was debating removing the blower and going to throttle boddies not sure which is going to give more power in the long run for drag racing??
Off soon for quote on 5 link so should at last have traction though :) :)
Anyone with any ideas please throw them at me!

Is the pick up the one featured in the Guy Croft book? If so, it's an earlier version of the one I know of at a clients. Theirs is the truck version of the on on the Ebay link in the post above.

Mine is the earlier version than that it's an 89 looks a lot better?
Will try and get some photo's available on here.
Used to be owned by the gent who had the green stratos at retro cars.
Keep me posted oppinions on throttle bodies or keeping the supercharger please folks.
:) :)

There's no doubt you need to keep the supercharger. Compression ratio on the VX is 7:1 and whilst it will run without the belt you've got no power. Not sure about attaching throttle bodies to the supercharger to replace the carb though.

Rob, could you let me know how much you would ask for the VX? A friend of mine over here wants to transplant a VX into his Lancia Scorpion (Montecarlo). I'll put him in touch with you directly, if you like.

Hi Scott, thanks.
At the moment there are already a few interested parties over here, before I've even advertised :) which is very encouraging. If I still have it by the end of the month I'll let you know. Engine crane and steel toecaps at the ready! :D
cheers

I may well also have a VX engine and gearbox available as I am going to go the V6 route directly. Trouble is condition is unknown, it's not run for four or five years but has been stored inside.

not sure of the compresion ratio on mine anyway as was not always blown but will have to keep it on incase. Anybody know what the canister in top of my blower taht has never beeen plumed or wired might be for?

Also anyone know anyone good for full re wires around the west midlands?
Can do it myself but would have to be outside and that in the winter is not good!

Sorry for all the what probably seem stupid questions folks but you gota learn somewhere.

The little white canister should have a tube at the front connecter to a Y piece that connects to two plastic tubes on either side of the supercharger. The canister is a pump for extracting any fuel vapour in the inlet manifold when the engine is hot and switched off. It vents it via a tube in the side of the canister to the airbox. The circuit is only live when the engine is off but is controlled by a thermoswitch that is cooled by fuel running through the fuel pipe to the carb. All well and good but in all the years of running VXs I only ever knew of one pump that only ever came on intermittently. Supposed to aid hot starting by the way.

How's the foot?

Healed, but not quite how it should be :(

Methinks I'll need to go back to the Quack's, as it still hurts a lot - especially when 'exercised' and the ole metatarsal isn't in the position it used to be.

But it's no big deal as far as health issues go.

:D Got that engine going yet?

Had it running, but still not bothered going back to finish the wiring and plumbing...

And then I need to get an MOT to use it; which means I'll probably put on a hydraulic handbrake to avoid hassle with the crappy old Wilwood spot caliper.

More work than I feel like doing when I'm home at the moment.
