I'm thinking of getting new cams for my 12 valve engine i know with some you need a new ECU chip, some of these chips can raise the rev limit by quite a large amount. Is it safe to run a standard V6 engine with a higher rev limit, also can anyone recommend any, thanks.

I am not an authority on this. but having done some recent research whilst it is easy to change parts cams chips etc it is important to consider the limiting factors, for example there is no piont fitting a wilder cam without adequate fueling, which needs either a replacement chip, piggyback chip or mappable ignition.

The standard air flow meter is restrictive, which again will needs upgrading or removal in the case of mappable ignition.

As regard revs am told 7500 is safe, 8000 is the limit. however again this will depend on the power characteristics of the engine, if max power is at 6500, whats the point of raising the rev limit.

It would be worth speaking to someone like Adie Hawkins who has a lot of experiece of these engines. I know John Rutter went down the cam/chip route.

One alternative would be to convert to cloverleaf spec, cams/ecu/AFM.

It is important to consider what you want to achieve and how much you want to spend, it might be cheaper to buy a cloverleaf engine whole or even a 24v!
